Abstract

The skyscraper has been one of the emblematic architectural types of the 20th century; its image is associated with the idea of progress, technological advances and corporate power. Faced with the changes due to contemporary practices, is this architectural type still valid today? If so, what should the skyscrapers of the 21st century look like?

Possible answers to these questions can be found in the eVolo Skyscraper Competition, which since 2006 and with the motto "Study, develop, evolve, fly", annually invites architects, engineers, designers and artists from all over the world to propose innovative ideas about these vertical buildings.

The following article proposes the analysis of the characteristics of the competition and the establishment in it of a possible agenda of the relevant issues of the discipline today.
