Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The file containing the text of the article does not identify in any of its parts authorship data. This data is recorded in a separate file.
  • You have duly completed the data file.
  • You have completed and signed the declaration of authorship and originality .
  • The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation is provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • Where possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • The text complies with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements defined in the Guide for Authors.
  • There are no conflicts of interest with the research in general, the topic developed in the article, or with the products/items or organizations cited.
  • Each author of the submitted contributions must have a researcher profile in ORCID and upload this information in the author data that must be completed in the submission process.

Author Guidelines

 

Cuadernos de Ingeniería is a scientific publication of the Catholic University of Salta, Argentina, created in 2008 (e-ISSN: 2250-7132 / ISSN: 2250-7124) and published under the imprint EUCASA (Ediciones Universidad Católica de Salta).

It is an open access journal published under the Creative Commons license (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike). It is published annually, and focuses on higher education issues, in our regional and national context, in dialogue with international contexts. Its approach is multidisciplinary, since it aims to address the subject matter from different disciplinary fields and areas of interest.

It brings together scientific articles, essays, and popular science notes related to the thematic field of the journal. These are original and unpublished texts, which are submitted to a process of external evaluation to the publishing house (double-blind) for acceptance. Book reviews are also published.



General Guidelines

The authors who publish in this journal accept the following conditions:

a. The authors retain the copyright and assign to the journal the right to the first publication.

b. Authors may make other independent and additional contractual agreements for non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in this journal (e.g., inclusion in an institutional repository or publication in a book) as long as they clearly indicate that the work was first published in this journal. To this end, and as a possibility, the link to UCASAL's Institutional Repository is provided.

The institution supports open access to knowledge, therefore the journal provides full access to all its content and it does not have any cost, both to the author and to the readers.

The journal adheres to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike , and the works are collected in UCASAL's Institutional Repository.

Published articles are also collected in UCASAL's Institutional Repository.

Collaborations that do not comply with the guidelines indicated in these regulations will be returned to the authors with a deadline for adaptation. Once this has been done, it will be registered with the date of reception and the process of external evaluation will begin.



External Evaluation

All papers received for inclusion in the "Collaborations" section are subject to a peer review process —two evaluators from outside UCASAL. If a disparate result is obtained, a third party is consulted. In all cases, the decision to publish is made by the Editorial Committee on the basis of the opinions expressed by the referees.

The evaluation system is double-blind, that is, the referees remain anonymous, unless they expressly request to contact the author, in which case the Editorial Board favors intercommunication; the authorship of the works is also anonymous.

In order to guarantee, as far as possible, the application of similar criteria when evaluating, specialists are provided with an evaluation form where the standards required for collaborations in general and for each type of writing in particular are specified.

The evaluators will complete the evaluation form with their opinion on the decision to be taken from among the following, which will finally be considered by the Editorial Committee:

 

Publishable without modifications.

Publishable with slight modifications:, i.e., the work is returned to the author with a list of minor corrections, requesting that they be incorporated into the final version of the manuscript.

Examples of minor changes: typographical errors, articles cited in the text that do not appear in the cited literature or vice versa, moderate changes to the wording.

Return of the article for substantial modifications, i.e., the article is returned with a list of important issues that the author must address in order for the work to be considered again.

Examples of major changes: justifying arguments, adding or redoing tables and figures, rewriting the discussion in light of unconsulted literature, substantial changes to the wording.

Non-publishable, i.e., the evaluation of the referees is communicated, informing the reasons for non-publication. This decision will almost always be final.

Examples of reasons for non-publication are:content of the article not sufficient in terms of treatment of the subject, gross violations of the rules of publication, articles lacking significance or merit.

 

The result is communicated to the authors, who have the opportunity to adjust their work according to the recommendations of the referees. In case they require modifications (substantial or slight), they will be asked to specify whether or not a new revision of the final text resulting from the author's correction is necessary.



The journal has the following text types:



In the section "Collaborations", which constitutes the central core of the journal, with external peer review, original works related to the journal's subject matter are accepted, according to the following textual types:

• Scientific articles (up to 15,000 words, including abstract, notes and bibliography).

• Scientific essays (up to 10,000 words)

• Popular science notes (up to 8,000 words)

 

The indication of the extension of the different types of texts is only for illustrative purposes and to provide the author with a basic parameter. Therefore, the non-fulfillment of this requirement will not be excluding in the decision of the evaluator.

The responsibility for the opinions expressed in the texts and for intellectual property respect lies with the authors.

The collaboration of the editors, authors and evaluators of this journal and the guide to ethics in editorial processes is governed by the Principles of Transparency and Good Practice in Academic Publications of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)). All articles submitted to this publication will be monitored through an online search and through plagiarism detection software.



Submitting Originals

In order to send an original, the author must register in the journal's portal with a username and password and follow the instructions provided by the system.

The language of the journal is Spanish, although contributions can be received in other languages. Each paper includes a title, abstract and keywords both in Spanish and English.

The call for papers is open permanently. As the contributions are received, the evaluation process begins so that, once the necessary volume of texts is completed, the issue is closed and everything that enters from there is programmed for the next number. In the same way, once the process of reviewing and editing an article is completed, it is uploaded to the journal's portal, in a pre-print instance



The following elements should be included:

• Text of the article, having deleted all authorship data both in the text and in the file properties

• In case of including images in the text, these must be placed in the corresponding place and, in addition, be uploaded to the platform as individual image files, duly identified, in .jpg, .npg or .pdf format



Editorial Standards

In order to unify the criteria to be taken into account for the presentation of works intended for publication, the following Editorial Standards and Standards for Bibliographic References are established.

All papers must meet the following requirements:

a) constitute an original, scientifically founded writing and have internal unity;

b) represent a contribution for the deepening of the different dimensions and fields of the discipline they address;

c) be unpublished and not have been simultaneously sent to other publications.



Technical Specifications

• Any work proposed for publication should not present grammatical problems.

• Avoid the use of different typefaces or fonts. We suggest "Times New Roman", body 12 for the text in general, and body 11 or 10 for the quotations or footnotes.

• You can differentiate different levels of titles with the size of the font, always using the same one used in the text. It is advisable not to exceed three levels of subtitles.

• Avoid using CAPITAL LETTERS on full words.

• Do not use underlining or bold in the body of the text.

• Point out emphases with "quotation marks".

• Use italics only for words in another language.

• Do not overlay "quotation marks" and italics. Quotations are placed "between quotes", without italics.

• When the text quoted exceeds 40 words, it is separated in a single paragraph, with a period and a left indentation of 1,25. It is not placed between quotes. At the end, in parentheses, the source is given, according to the following example: (Pérez, 2013: 12-15).

• Explanatory notes should be placed in the footer with the automatic Word system.

 

Figures: All illustrations including photos, diagrams, maps and charts are classified as figures. These should be uploaded to the OJS system in the supplementary files section of the submission. They will be numbered with Arabic numerals and should have a brief descriptive legend, placed at the bottom. The format will be .png, .tif, .jpeg; in a resolution of 300 ppi or more.

In the text must be indicated the precise place where the figures should be inserted by means of inserting the legend "[Insert Figure 1 here]". Each figure should be cited in the text according to the order of appearance and in the following format: (Fig. 4) or (Figs. 4 and 5).

 

Tables: Tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order in which they are cited in the text (e.g., Table 1). They should contain a brief descriptive legend. The content of the tables should not duplicate the information that has been developed in the work, but rather complement it. They should be prepared according to the model of the APA standards.

 

Text Structure

The text file that is submitted must contain the following components in the order indicated below:

• Title of the paper, in Spanish and English. In the next line, in parentheses, clarify if it is a scientific article/scientific essay/popular science note.

• Abstract in Spanish (up to 200 words)

• Keywords in Spanish (maximum 5 descriptors)

• Abstract in English (up to 200 words)

• Keywords in English (maximum 5 descriptors)

• Text of the article. Whenever possible and appropriate to the approach of the article, the body will preferably follow the IMR&D structure: Introduction, Methodology, Results and Conclusions/Discussion of the results. If this structure is not followed, it is advisable to include an introduction, a development of the work and the conclusions, each section with its corresponding subtitles.

• Bibliographic references (according to APA standards).

 

In the case of a bibliographic review, only the following components will be included:

• Bibliographic data of the book reviewed, according to APA standards

• Review type (descriptive/critical)

• Review text (up to 3,000 words)



Standards for Bibliographic References

Citations and bibliographic references will be made according to APA Standards (a guide can be found at the following link: http://normasapa.com/como-hacer-referencias-bibliografia-en-normas-apa/).

• Please note: all works cited or referred to in the text must be included in the section on Bibliographic References; consequently, only the titles mentioned in the body of the work should be included.

• Bibliographic references should not be included in footnotes. They should be inserted in the text, in parentheses (e.g., Pérez, 2013: 12-15), and additionally, with all the information according to APA standards, at the end of the text, under the heading "Bibliographic References".

• Order of the bibliography: alphabetical.

• Use of capital letters in book titles: only the first letter of the title and proper names are capitalized. The rest of the words are in lower case.

• Book titles are written in the language and with the spelling of the original. The city where the book is published must always be written in Spanish.



Digital Preservation Policies

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archive of its content ensuring the generation of replicas.

Actions are also carried out at the server level, as well as backup, preservation and archiving policies, guaranteeing the reconstruction of the entire journal collection and the preservation of each published digital content. Automated background processes (CRON) are managed, generating complete backups of the entire database and article repository of the OJS system, and their deposit in digital storage services external to the journal's server.

 

Deadlines

The current deadlines for acceptance of submissions and assignment of reviewers for the beginning of the evaluation process are between 15 - 20 days. In the case of contributions approved for publication and included in the table of contents of an issue of the journal, the deadline will depend on the date corresponding to the next issue considering the exact date on which the result of the refereeing process is communicated to the authors.
